Ferrets sleep a lot! They love to sleep in a comfy environment but not one that is too hot or too cool. Because of their preferences it is ideal if they have a couple of sleep options available to them such as a sleep sack which allows them to burrow inside if they get a chill or they can sprawl out in a hammock if they so desire.

Finding the perfect hammock for your ferret is not always as simple as it may seem. The idea of the ferret hammock is similar to that of a human hammock. You will suspend the hammock from the cage and the ferret can climb inside and take a snooze. The hammock should be lined with something that is nice and fuzzy and very soft. Some hammocks are designed with inner pockets that are very appealing to ferrets since they can sleep on top of them or snuggle up inside. By nature, ferrets are burrowing animals so sleep sacks and hammocks are very engaging.

Hammocks allow ferrets to swing gently which is comfortable to them as they try to fall asleep and the natural position that the ferret has to lie in while inside of the hammock also happens to be a favorite of theirs. In addition, having their hammock suspended in the air moves their sleep chambers away from where they eat and also from their litter box which ferrets do not like to have these areas close to each other.

The number of hammocks that you should purchase will depend on how many ferrets that you own. Now if you only have one ferret then one hammock and one sleep sack would be ideal however if you multiple ferrets than you should own one for each ferret. You may find that if you have a couple of ferrets they may all snuggle together and sleep that way but keep in mind that ferrets can become territorial and for that reason they should have options.

When it actually comes time to buy your hammock you will want to make sure that you are buying a hammock that has some quality to it. Make sure that it is easily machine washable since they should be washed a couple of times each month, and buy a good tight knit material hammock since many of the other types have a tendency to get the ferrets nails caught in them.

Don't worry so much about the colors or designs of the hammock that you buy because it really makes no difference to your ferret since their color vision is extremely limited. However, if you care about the interior design of your ferrets cage then rest assured that there are a number of colors and patterns available.

Pay careful attention to the hardware used to hang the hammock. Some hammocks come with the hardware while others do not. Two things should concern you about the hardware, one, that it is safe for your ferret and he can't get hurt on it and the other is that it allows easy removal for you to launder it.

Finally, it is important that you inspect these hammocks regularly and make sure that the material hasn't frayed and that the hardware is in place. These are good practices to get into so that you are always on top of safety measures to ensure that your ferret is always protected.
