For the most part, ferrets will live inside of a caged environment which is their home. They will expect to roam around each day for a few hours before returning back to their cage but here is the catch, the ferret home needs to be spacious and safe so not just any cage will do. You must make sure that the cage can accommodate any hammocks, sleep sacks, their litter box, their food and water, and room for them to move around in.
It can not be stressed enough to make sure that you examine your ferret's cage regularly. A simple check of his cage can make a world of difference and it only takes a few minutes to do. Inspect and eliminate anything that might not be safe for your pet. Steer clear of metal cages that tend to rust and cheap plastic ones that the ferret can chew through.
Buy a cage that has at least one door in it and make sure that it is a nice and spacious door. A great idea is to buy a multi level cage as they offer the most room for the ferret and result in your not having to situate the litter box and their food near each other, which is something that ferrets are not fond of. Keep a good sized litter box a decent distance away from their food and water bowl.
Ferrets do not like their cages to be moved around or placed in areas where there is a lot of commotion. They actually prefer quiet areas that are dimly lit or even dark since they sleep so much. Once you have found the ideal place to situate the cage you can fill it with the special extras that make the ferret so happy. These things include their hammocks, toys, and feeding bowls. Don't forget to add a sleep sack and their litter box too!
Once the best home is prepared for your ferret he will slumber away and wait your coming home knowing that he will get a short release so he can cuddle with you and show off for a while. He will have no qualms rushing back to his home when the two of you have finished your daily play regimen. These things will ensure that your ferret is happy and healthy and as a pet owner it should give you a sense of pride knowing that you have offered your ferret the very best housing options possible.
